When Should You See a Foot Specialist?

Podiatrists care for your feet specifically. If you have a foot problem, this is where you should go. They have the knowledge to help you with any foot issue you are experiencing. If you aren't sure when you should see a foot specialist, read on for a few times it may be best to seek help from the professionals. 

Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails are very painful, and you may need to see a foot specialist. Many people try DIY solutions for this problem. For example, it's best to continue to clip your nails straight across. The ingrown nail may correct itself, but you may need to use thread to pull the ingrown nail off of the skin.

However, ingrown toenails are difficult to treat if you aren't sure what you're doing and it can also lead to injury and further issues. If you have ingrown toenails, the best thing to do is go to a podiatrist for help. 

Bunion

A bunion is a disfigurement of the bone in the large toe and sometimes the pinkie toe. A bunion can be caused by wearing shoes that are too tight and by wearing shoes that may be too tall, causing pressure on the toes. Be sure you are wearing shoes that fit and support your shoes properly.

When you have a bunion, the bone protrudes and cause pain anytime you're on your feet and can also make wearing shoes painful as well. A bunion can sometimes be treated to allow it to heal, but other times it may require surgery.

Torn Achilles Tendon

The Achilles tendon runs from the back of the calf to the heal. The injury is caused when the tendon stretches and tears completely. This tendon can tear for a variety of reasons. For example, if you aren't stretching properly before exercising or playing a sport or even just from walking in shoes that don't fit your feet properly and aren't giving you enough support. A torn Achilles tendon can be extremely painful and is going to require surgery. Seek help from a podiatrist if you have a torn or just a stretched Achilles tendon.

A foot specialist should be seen when you have these or other types of foot issues. To prevent these and other feet issues, be sure you are taking care of your feet properly and wearing the right type of shoes that offer support and comfort for your feet.
